Personal Statement 

Having studied within visual arts from an early age helped facilitate the development and provided the foundation to expand my ability as an artist and designer. This in turn provided me with a strong belief in the importance of visual communications.

I am an experienced well motivated individual that has a diverse background in the visual arts. I enjoy developing my skills and fulfilling my potential as an individual. My abilities allow me to multitask and organise efficiently, this is further supplemented with team skills that encourages and develops the results from both colleagues and customers. A proven professional in collating information that enables me to provide rapid analysis, decision making and prioritisation of any situation that may arise. This in turn allows the high production of high standards. The skills that I have acquired through life experience, college's and university have enabled me to work efficiently singularly or as part of a team with a strong desire to produce high quality results. My key skills ultimately evolve around art & design as these were and still are the subjects that I have studied since leaving school.

My previous experience involved gaining a placement as an apprentice artist for Gallery 37. The course was situated in Centenary Square, Birmingham. Working as an apprentice gave me the opportunity to showcase my work to the public and also network with a diverse group of artists aged between 16-24. From Gallery 37, I was offered an opportunity to exhibit paintings and print work at the Custard Factory in Birmingham; A need For Space.

I worked in London for The Princes Foundation. I was located in the centre of London, compiling a portfolio of architectural drawings, paintings and photography. Following this a selection of work was selected for an exhibition in the centre London. This opportunity provided me with the opportunity to meet artists within my age group and also work outside of the West Midland area. Following this, I successfully completed a foundation diploma in Art & Design at the University of Central England. [School of Art and Design] I believe completing a foundation diploma provided analytical skills, encouraged me to question my motivations in terms of producing art and design work, further more the course assisted me with the confidence to express these options. The course also prepared me to challenge other avenues within the creative industry. After taking a gap year and investigating the options that were available to me I worked as a freelance artist producing an assortment of commissions within the West Midlands area. Following my gap year I decided to take another foundation diploma in which I successfully completed, gaining a merit. Taking another foundation provided me with the prospect of experimenting in alternative elements to art and design. I gained skills in sculpture and more importantly illustration and graphic design.

Since completing the foundation, I worked as a freelance artist/designer working on several commissions and a couple of exhibitions at the Crescent Art Gallery in Moseley, Birmingham.

I am currently developing skills in contemporary publishing, Post production, editing and animation. Over the last Twelve months I have developed a variety of skills within Graphic Design and Illustration. Between January and May 2007 I worked alongside three other students creating a website. The website promoted Regeneration within Coventry. Other outcomes to this brief included a final printed artefact created in InDesign. Other Design Disciplines covered Branding, Digital, Editorial, Print and packaging. InitiativesOver the summer of 2007 developed my skills in Animation and Editorial Design. Using online tutorials and strict self directed study I Covered the following software; Flash 8 pro, Photoshop CS3, IMovie, After Effects 7 and Adobe Premiere 2.0. With persistence and determination I was able to enhance my skills and knowledge in the basic principles in Animation such as basic walk cycles and software. Other Areas in Animation that I focused on was Moving Background sequences in which I developed Scenes using Flash 8 Pro. Through self directed study I developed a more varied scope in my Editorial Knowledge. Using IMovie & Premier I was able to create short films Edited with Video Transitions, Effects, Title screens and scrolling credits.

During May 2008 I worked on a live brief, Uni cal, an academic calender that will be published in October 2008 for the students of coventry university. I was responsible for the development of the overall visual, promotional and branding design for Uni Cal. 

Influences 

Between January and May 2007 I worked alongside three other students creating a website. After looking at various initial concepts as a group we decided to look at my initial concept. Being a prominent figure within team I came up with the original concept and research of the website. After structuring the site and allocating themes to each group member, I encouraged the group to develop each individual concept. The website promoted Regeneration within Coventry. From there we worked together with the original concept developing it into a final website with four printed artefact's and a mood board.

All ten designs that have been integrated into the calender I have developed and produced by myself.
